An old lady walks into the store. One of many.
"I need this color." She shows me the color chip.
I ask her what grade of paint she would like.
"Well, you got anything on sale?"
I show her the sale price on one of our better paints, her eyes go wide.
"My, paint has certainly gone up."
A most typical response, especially from the older generation as they remember when paint was probably five dollars.
"How long will it even last?" Typical old person's mumbling.
I assure her the paint will last for quite awhile.
"Will it last for the rest of my life?"

...

More old person's mumbling, but I don't know how to respond to this...
Telling her she'll live to see another repaint will make her think the product is inferior, and I may lose the sale.
Telling her the paint will most likely last after her unfortunate death? She'd accuse me of calling her old and I'd probably lose the sale just as well.

So I revert to my usual method of handling these cases: shut my trap, walk to the tinter, make the lady's paint and ring her out.
