I'm at Pet Smart. "Do you have a Pet Perks card," the lady at the register asks. "Not with me." I don't carry around the card because I know a phone number will suffice. "Not a problem. Phone number is...518?" She starts with Albany's area code, assuming my phone number is from Albany. "Oh no, actually it's 845..." I continue with the rest of my number. "Oh, 845, I was from there." "Oh really? Where were you from?" This perks my interest, as my hometown is an hour and a half away, and little known. "Newburgh," she says to my surprise. "Oh wow, that's my hometown." I laugh at the coincidence. "Yeah, I used to live there 'til I moved up here about a year ago. Too many people were getting killed." I laugh at this. "Yup, that's Newburgh for ya." Indeed, that is Newburgh for you. |
